Privacy Policy

Last updated: 27 June 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how M-Base Technologies (Pty) Ltd, trading as Meyabase ("Meyabase", "we", "us", or "our"), collects and uses personal data when you use Meyabase Contribute at contribute.meyabase.com (the "Platform").

Because the Platform exists to build open language data, some of what you contribute is published openly — please read the sections on public contributions and the open licence carefully.

Information we collect

We collect:

  • Account information — your first and last name, email address, and a securely hashed password;
  • Sign-in information — if you sign in with Google, the basic profile details Google shares with us, such as your name and email;
  • Your contributions — the translations and source texts you submit and the audio recordings of your voice you make, together with the language and related metadata;
  • Activity data — your verifications, votes, contribution counts, and similar records used for quality and leaderboards;
  • Technical data — your IP address, device and browser information, and log events, collected automatically when you use the Platform.

How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and operate the Platform and your account;
  • Build, verify, and publish open language datasets;
  • Display contributions, your display name, and contributor rankings;
  • Keep the Platform secure and prevent abuse;
  • Communicate with you — for example email verification, password resets, and important service notices.

Where applicable data-protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on: performance of our agreement with you (running your account and the Platform); your consent (for example verifying your email, signing in with Google, and choosing to contribute); and our legitimate interests in securing and improving the Platform and in building open language data.

Cookies

We use only strictly-necessary cookies to keep you signed in — HttpOnly session cookies (meya_access and meya_refresh). We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not use third-party analytics at this time.

Public contributions and open data

Contributions you make, along with your display name, are shown publicly on the Platform — for example in the Explore corpus and on leaderboards.

Contributed language data is also published as open datasets under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/). Once data has been published openly, others may download and reuse it, and those copies cannot be recalled.

How we share information

We share information with:

  • Service providers who help us run the Platform — for example cloud hosting and storage (Google Cloud), transactional email delivery, and Google for optional sign-in — who process data on our behalf;
  • The public, as part of the openly-published contributions and datasets described above;
  • Authorities or others where we are required to by law, or to protect the Platform, our users, or the public.

We do not sell your personal data.

International data transfers

Some of our service providers may store or process data outside Namibia. Where they do, we rely on those providers' safeguards for international transfers.

Data retention

We keep your account and contribution data for as long as your account is active and as needed to operate the Platform and maintain the dataset. Technical logs are kept for a limited period. Data already published openly remains part of the released datasets.

Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you may:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you;
  • Correct inaccurate information — you can edit your name from your Account page;
  • Request deletion of your account and associated personal data.

To exercise these rights, contact us at support@meyabase.com. Contributions already published under the open licence cannot be withdrawn from people who have already obtained them.

Children's privacy

The Platform is not directed at children below the age of digital consent in their jurisdiction, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including hashed passwords and HttpOnly session cookies. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the Last updated date above.
