About Contribute
At Meyabase, we created Contribute, an inclusive and robust language crowdsourcing resource platform. On Contribute, users (community developers) will translate provided, vocabulary-rich sentences into any supported indigenous language, and selected moderators will evaluate the correctness of the submitted translations.
We currently support Oshindonga, Oshikwanyama, Otjiherero, Rukwangali, Khoekhoegowab, siLozi and Setswana.. We aim to provide access to additional languages as the more diverse contributors join Meyabase.
Occasionally, we will host numerous competitions with cash prizes and rewards. Do follow us on our social media pages.
Our goals at Meyabase
- Enabling effective communication in a culturally diverse country such as Namibia.
- Aid in the efficient transmission of knowledge, particularly in remote regions of the country.
- Help digitise and preserve the cultural heritage of indigenous communities.
Contribution Guidelines
- Created translations are not editable or deletable. In case of an error, create another translation.
- Write for a large audience. When translating a word or sentence, make sure you are clear for others to understand and apply it.
- Be creative. Some of the best translations on Contribute contain jargon, street language etc. Some of them are just straight-up weird. We are okay with that.
- Have fun. Contribute is where language has a little more space to be explored and constructed freely.
- If you notice anything on Contribute that you believe falls outside these guidelines or is completely wrong, please report/flag it for review.
